




Overview
Helen Deakin gained a first class degree from the Royal Academy of Music where she studied piano with Christopher Elton and clarinet with Georgina Dobrée, taking both instruments as joint first study.
Helen lived in Rugby for 25 years and moved back to her native South-West (she is originally from Truro) 14 years ago. She now lives in Devon.
Helen’s widely varied working life includes:

Instrumental Teaching (piano / clarinet / flute/theory of music). Helen is a very experienced teacher of all ages and stages

ABRSM. Working as an examiner, presenter and mentor

Adjudicating. Helen is on the adjudicator panel of the British and International Federation of Festivals, and is a very busy adjudicator

Chamber Music. Playing & coaching (organising and coaching chamber groups of varying sizes, combinations and genres)

Workshops. Leading workshops in chamber music / piano performance /piano teaching / practical musicianship / performance practice / etc

Inset Days. On a variety of topics,including incorporating aural / holistic learning / lesson planning / sight reading / approaching a new piece / lesson observation / exams / performance / etc
